Round 23 AFL Betting 2012 in Review – Sportsbetting Markets and Sports Investment Results

The result from round 23 are shown quickly below.

Friday 31st August Hawthorn [$1.24, -27.5 @ 1.91] vs West Coast [$4.25, +27.5 @ 1.91] at the MCG. Hawthorn kicked away early, and a hiding was on the cards. To the eagles credit, they stuck to it and as Hawthorn grew tired late the snuck in late for the cover by the hook. Late line had the Hawks -25.5. We took the Hawks -25.5, investing 23 to win 20 units.

Saturday 1st September Adelaide [1.01, -66.5 @ 1.91] vs Gold Coast {$21.00, +66.5 @ 1.91] at AAMI stadium. A good finals warm up for the Crows, and they cover easily – winning by 91 points against a bookmakers late line of +/-66.5. We liked the Crows, but ultimately passed. Out from an initial line of +/-55.5

Saturday 1st September Geelong [$1.62, -8.5 @ 1.91] attracted lost of sports investment money late – which saluted as they ran over the top of Sydney [$2.35, +8.5 @ 1.91] at Symonds stadium. This line opened the week at +/-6.5 indicating plenty of support for the Cats.

Saturday 1st September GWS [$21.00, +82.5 @ 1.91] vs North Melbourne [$1.01, -82.5 @ 1.91]. The Kangaroos were disappointing on the road here, falling in 28 points in a game that was fairly close for a good portion of it. We didn’t have a position, and the late line was fairly neutral with this game not seeing much action with the bookmakers in either direction.

Saturday 1st September Fremantle [$1.06, -50.5 @ 1.91] hosted Melbourne [$10.00, +50.5 @ 1.91] in a game we liked – with us taking Fremantle -52.5 investing 21 to win 20 units, saluting in the end. Melbourne are a poor team and it’s hard to see them improving much in 2013. Early week line +/-47.5

Saturday 1st September Essendon [$5.75, +38.5 @ 1.91] vs Collingwood [$1.15, -38.5 @ 1.91] at the MCG. Cloke kicking 5 goals has him finding some form at a crucial time. Essendon were about as good as could be expected. Too many points to lay with Collingwood, and not enough confidence in Essendon sees us avoiding this game. Early week line +/-35.5 with the Australian corporate bookmakers.

Sunday 2nd September Carlton [$1.990] vs St.Kilda [$1.917] saw Carlton move a whole 8.5 points from their initial quote of +8.5 points – this was on the back of punters backing the team in to win for the sake of Ratten’s last game as coach. A poetic finish was denied here, St.Kilda too good. Carlton fought gallantly and the game wasn’t a bad spectacle.

Sunday 2nd September Richmond [$1.08, -46.5 @ 1.91] vs Port Adelaide [$8.50, +46.5 @ 1.91] at the MCG on a fine Sunday afternoon. Jack Reiwoldt was able to snare the Coleman Medal, but the Power burned our position of Richmond -42.5 investing 21 to win 20 units, as they snare a draw – the first for season 2012. Richmond fans finish the year on a downer. This game moved a long way from the early line of +/-37.5 to +/-47.5

Sunday 2nd September the final sports betting opportunity of the 2012 AFL regular season with the Brisbane Lions [$1.17, -34.5 @ 1.91] hosting the woeful Western Bulldogs [$5.30, +34.5 @ 1.91] and covering with a win of 67 points up at the Gabba. Lions finish 2012 full of promise, the Dogs, full of headaches. They rarely covered and showed little in 2012. Early line +/- 32.5 points. Liked the Lions, but no bet for us.

Favourites went 4 – 4 against the bookmaker’s handicap line. (Now 103 – 94 for the season).

Moneyline underdogs won straight up twice.

At professionalgambler for round 23, we had three positions, finishing 1 – 2 for -24 units, sending our 2012 AFL only season record to 31-36, for +22.5 units.
