Round 13 of 2012 AFL Sports Betting is the last of the shortened bye rounds. We take the Crows and they have a shocker, other than that it was a light weekend. Not much movement in the lines this week, and a couple of moneyline underdog upsets made things interesting.
Friday 22nd June We liked this one close, and so had a cheeky punt on the draw between Geelong [$2.30, +8.5 @ 1.91] and Sydney [$1.65, -8.5 @ 1.91] as a bit of Friday night interest sucking up the 80s and then 70s at Betfair . Line was pretty solid all week with Sydney at -8.5 points, a reasonable indication that the action was fairly split all week. Needed one more straight kick from the Cats. Sydney’s start was blistering through 7 straight goals, but unbelievably, looked like they were going to get a good old rolling in the closing stages. One late goal sealed it.
Saturday 23rd June Western Bulldogs [$1.38, -18.5 @ 1.91] faced up to a rebounding Brisbane Lions [$3.05, +18.5 @ 1.91] wearing the old Lions Maroon strip at Etihad Stadium, and were taken to pieces. Most of the damage in the 58 point win was inflicted in the final term, the Lions finishing strong for the old jumper. The line opened on Monday at +/-20.5, and the late line had Doggies -18.5 @ 1.901 vs Brisbane +18.5 @ 2.010. Some entertaining football from the Lions.
Saturday 23rd June Yes, the match of the round at the MCG. Collingwood [$1.38, -16.5 @ 1.91] hosted West Coast [$3.15, +16.5 @ 1.91]. After giving away +14.5 points earlier in the week, a two point movement by match time had Collingwood slightly shorter of the two at -16.5 @ 1.926 against +16.5 @ 1.980 Eagles. Collingwood outscored 3.3 to 1.3 made for a gripping final term, the Pies just holding on for a 3 point victory. Cloke, Beams and Kerr not surprisingly were on fire.
Saturday 23rd June Essendon [$1.62, -9.5 @ 1.91] vs Fremantle [$2.35, +9.5 @ 1.91]. This game was a much tighter contest than the final margin would have you believe, with the Bombers down by as much as 17 points late in the 3rd term, before storming back to finish of the Dockers. Jobe Watson continued his sensational 2012 leading from the front. Sports Investment wise, the late line was +/-7.5 @ 1.952 after starting the week at +/-3.5 indicating a decent move on the Bombers through the week that saluted.
Sunday 24th June MCG Sunday, Melbourne [$1.28, -26.5 @ 1.91] dished out some punishment to GWS [$3.85, +26.5 @ 1.91], with the floodgates really opening up after quarter time to hand the Dees a 78 points win. The loss of Mitch Clarke will be felt by the Dees, who has undergone surgery already on his injured ankle. The sportsbetting line for this game was +/-21.5 points early in the week, with a late line of Dees -26.5 @ 1.909, vs GWS +26.5 @ 2.00, a move on the Dees that got the cash comfortably.
Sunday 24th June North Melbourne [$3.30, +19.5 @ 1.91] was up and about with bells on against a pretty ordinary Adelaide [$1.35, -19.5 @ 1.91] at Etihad Stadium. Not enough attack on the ball and movement that would make witches hats jealous left the Crows with a massive deficit that was in the end insurmountable. We jumped on the Crows laying -19.5 points investing 27 to win 25 units, also taking the over 40+ points win bracket investing 13.5 to win 30 units. Disappointing result. Our poor run continues.
Favourites went 2 – 4 against the bookmaker’s handicap line. (Now 49 – 59 for the season).
Moneyline underdogs won straight up twice.
At professionalgambler for round 13, we had two sports investments – finishing the round 0-2 for -40.5 units, and taking our 2012 AFL only season record to 11-20, -119.5 units.
