“All money is a matter of belief” – Adam Smith
By looking at the sportsbetting lines for Round 2 AFL, there are some big believers this week in certain teams. Let’s take a look at the sports investment state of play. Let’s hop straight into it.
This line opened at Centrebet on Monday at -19.5 at 1.91, and our preferred book Pinnacle’s head to head line on Tuesday had the Lions 3.480 vs Blues 1.357. Some Carlton support had this line out to -20.5 by the time pinnacle posted their handicap lines on Wednesday afternoon. We took Carlton at -20.5 @ 1.952 on Wednesday afternoon. The line stayed on -20.5 with a sprinkle of Blues money late moving the price for the -20.5 slightly shorter.
These two sides clash at Etihad Stadium at 1.45pm tomorrow (Saturday). We will probably look elsewhere this round if having additional AFL positions. There has been some support for Essendon head to head after having started 1.260 early in the week, and now at time of writing 1.247.
With a game time of 2.10pm Saturday, this line has already moved a point to Sydney -7.5 @ 1.926, Dockers +7.5 @ 1.980. We will see if this money continues to flow Sydney’s way.
The Eagles’ solid performance in round one sees them heavily favoured and hosting a weak and disorganised Demons outfit. In 2011 Melbourne indicated they can play half decent football when they want to.
There are friendless in the betting however, with the line moving a full 3 points against them. Demons now +50.5 @ 1.952 (at the time of writing). This will be on the move again closer to gametime.
Punters need the bookies encouragement to bet the Tigers at the MCG against the Magpies, with a generous 35.5 points head start offered on Wednesday. Some Richmond support has come with the line firming the Tigers’ way – pinnacle now betting +35.5 @ 1.901 at the time of writing. Not the best matchup for extracting profits – so barring any huge line moves – we will be leaving this one alone as well.
The Crows are heavy favourites against the Bulldogs thanks to the AAMI stadium factor, with this line still sitting unchanged at 29.5 at the time of writing. This game should have a lot of action on it by the time this kicks off on Saturday night.
Some support for the GWS Giants has seen this line move to GWS +76.5 @ 1.952. The game is being played down in Tasmania so watch the weather closely if you are betting -76.5 on the day. First road trip for GWS and will be interesting to see how they respond.
Has this St. Kilda team got a 9-10 goal win in them? The bookmakers seem to think so – and so do punters so far with the line steady at +52.5 points. Not many keen to take the +52.5 about the Suns, although this is another line worth watching closer to game time.
The game of the round with Geelong taking on Hawthorn at the MCG in full blockbuster mode. This one will be a ripper, and you can now get Geelong +12.5 @ 1.952 (and Hawthorn -12.5 @ 1.952). You can see Scarlett’s suspension and the form of Buddy/Cyril reflected in the line.
Round 2 certain to be sensational. Already we have a few highlights. Here’s one.
